Top 10 Unique Airbnbs in the Dominican Republic

After a decade of living in the Dominican Republic, I can tell you: this country is so much more than Punta Cana.
If you’ve been following along, you already know I’m passionate about showing people the side of the DR that most travelers miss. The remote towns, jungle-covered mountains, and inland communities that feel a world away from the all-inclusives and resort strips.
So I put together a free guide featuring 10 of the most unique Airbnbs in the Dominican Republic. These aren’t luxury villas or beachfront penthouses. In fact, many of them aren’t on the beach — and that’s the point.
We’ve found school bus turned vacation rental near a local beach, architectural gems in the mountains, industrial lofts, fairy tale cottages, and colonial lofts that combines history and modern-day. Some are on farms, some are surrounded by waterfalls, and each one offers a totally different experience.
There’s no ranking here — just 10 one-of-a-kind places worth bookmarking. But to give you a taste, here are 3 of our favorites.
And if you want the full list (plus booking tips and where to eat nearby), you can grab the free download at the bottom of this post.
📍José Conteras, Dominican Republic

If you’re looking to swap the heat and hustle for cool mountain air, foggy sunrises, and total peace, Rincones del Mogoteis the perfect escape. Tucked high in the hills above Villa Trina, this four-bedroom mountain cabin feels like stepping into a secluded alpine cottage — but with full amenities and epic views.
It’s ideal for a family trip or a group getaway: it sleeps up to 8 guests, has 3 bathrooms, and offers total privacy. The house is spacious but cozy, with a fireplace, a fully stocked kitchen, and several lounging spots that overlook the valley below. At night, it’s all about quiet skies and stargazing. In the morning? Coffee with clouds rolling through the trees.
There’s WiFi, but don’t expect perfect signal — this is the kind of place where you disconnect on purpose. Guests rave about the peaceful vibe, well-equipped kitchen, and just how restful it feels.
A few things to note:
You’ll need a 4x4 or SUV to make it up the steep mountain road (don’t ignore that advice).
The temperature drops at night, so bring layers.
It’s about 30 minutes from Moca and a little over an hour from Santiago.
Rates start at $257/night, with full private access to the cabin and surrounding trails.
"We loved the house. The views are a dream. The peace and the silence — priceless. We felt completely disconnected in the best way."
This one is for slow mornings, good food, and fresh mountain air. It’s not just a stay — it’s a reset.

📍Miches, Dominican Republic

Tucked into the untouched hills of Miches, these eco-friendly domes are one of the best ways to experience the wilder, less-developed side of the Dominican Republic — without sacrificing comfort. At Domescape, you’ll sleep under the stars, wake up to panoramic views of Laguna del Limón, Montaña Redonda, and the sea, and feel completely immersed in nature, without being completely off-grid.
Each geodesic dome is fully equipped with a private bathroom, cozy bed, A/C, WiFi, and a kitchen, plus a large deck for outdoor lounging. The design is thoughtful and well-executed — spotless interiors, great lighting, and even details like a rinse-off station after the beach. A firepit, BBQ, and clear views of the stars make evenings just as special as the mornings.
This is not a party spot or a luxury resort — it’s peaceful, low-impact, and well-suited for couples or small families who want to unwind. Guests describe it as cozy, quiet, and surprisingly spacious. And while it’s close to nature (yes, you might see a few bugs), the setting is what makes it shine: green hills, horses grazing nearby, and a famously beautiful beach just 10 minutes away.
A few notes:
Breakfast vouchers are included (except Mondays)
Sleeps 2
Domes are solar-powered, so energy use is carefully managed
You’ll need to remove your shoes inside — bring slippers or sandals
Located 1.5 hours from Punta Cana, and about 3 hours from Santo Domingo
Prices start at $118/night
“The view from the dome is absolutely breathtaking — we could see the lagoon, sea, and mountains all from our bed. Everything was spotless. One of the best Airbnbs I’ve stayed in.”
This is what glamping in the Dominican Republic should feel like — comfortable, intentional, and completely surrounded by natural beauty.

📍Las Galeras, Dominican Republic

If you’ve ever dreamed of staying in a quiet seaside cottage where you wake up to the sound of waves and walk down your own private steps to a near-empty beach — this is that dream realized. The Nest at Javo Beach is a charming Caribbean escape perched on a hillside above La Playita, a calm, crescent-shaped beach just outside of Las Galeras.
This isn’t a resort. It’s a 660-square-foot open-air cottage, thoughtfully designed for rest and recharge. The king-size bed, outdoor spa-style bathroom, kitchenette, and spacious terrace all face out to Rincón Bay, giving you wide, uninterrupted ocean views from your hammock or dining table.
The vibe here is romantic, quiet, and totally unplugged. The Nest includes exclusive beach access with your own tiki umbrella and loungers on the sand, a beachfront palapa with hammocks and a freshwater shower, and daily housekeeping (a nice bonus for longer stays). For travelers who care about sustainability, it’s also one of the first stays in the country certified for biodiversity and sustainability by TourCert-GIZ.
Getting here takes a little planning — 1 hour from El Catey/Samana airport, 3 hours from Santo Domingo, or 5 hours from Punta Cana — but that’s exactly why it feels so untouched. And if you’re not up for the drive, they even offer helicopter and private plane transfers.
2-night minimum stay starting at $565 total
Sleeps 2
Located in Las Galeras, about 20 minutes from Samaná town and walking distance to both La Playita and Playa Rincón
“A tranquil retreat to recharge your soul. The views are spectacular, and it’s even better than the photos. It was spotless, private, and we didn’t want to leave. My only regret is not staying longer!”
Whether you’ve always wanted to live your cottagecore fantasy or just want a peaceful hideaway that’s steps from the sea — this hidden gem in the Dominican Republic checks every box.
