The Best View in the Dominican Republic | Montaña Redonda

If you’re in Miches, Dominican Republic, Montaña Redonda is an absolute must-see.
Even though we’ve been, I would happily go again! It’s a place where the scenery, adventure, and local culture come together perfectly. The mountain offers 360-degree views of El Seibo Province, including views of the Samaná Peninsula, Laguna Redonda, and Laguna Limón. We even caught rainbows in the distance while rainfall moved across the landscape — it’s that kind of view.
How to Get to Montaña Redonda

If you’re coming from Santo Domingo (or passing through), you’ll need your own transportation — this area is not ideal for public transport. The drive is about 3.5 hours or more, but it’s very scenic, especially the final stretch, which takes you over a mountain range with winding switchbacks and beautiful views. If you prefer a flatter, more relaxed drive, you can also route through Higüey.

From Punta Cana, the drive is much easier — about 1.5 hours by car.
If you don’t have your own transportation, staying in Punta Cana area, and want to visit Montaña Redonda as part of a private experience, we recommend Lowis from Wonders Punta Cana. He can arrange private tours and transportation. You can check out his Instagram or contact him directly via WhatsApp — and be sure to tell him “Cliff and Cove sent you.”
Montaña Redonda Entrance Fees and Transport

Lots of tour companies offer this as a package, but when I tried to find prices for driving yourself, the info was all over the place. So here’s the breakdown…
Entrance fee: $7 per person
Parking: $2
Roundtrip ride up and down the mountain (if you don’t drive yourself):
1–4 people: $20 total
5+ people: $5 per person
You can drive your own 4x4 up the small, winding road with switchbacks and some precipices, but we recommend using the mountain transport service — it’s safer and part of the adventure. Once you’re done at the top, staff will call the truck to pick you up for the ride down (~10 minutes, hang on to the rails!).
Activities at the Top

Montaña Redonda is more than just a viewpoint — there’s plenty to do:

Ziplines: $20 each (regular or bike zipline)
Swings: multiple photo ops
Benches & hammocks: perfect for relaxing
Photo studio: if you want professional swing pics
Telescopes: or bring binoculars to scan the landscape, maybe even catch whales during January–March season
Bring a blanket or towel: lay out on the grass and soak in the views
Food & Drinks

Montaña Redonda Restaurant: delicious and affordable. We enjoyed lobster and fish in coconut sauce with moro con guandules.
Cash only for transport and the restaurant (Dominican bank transfers accepted for the restaurant)
Open 8am–6pm, serving breakfast too
You can bring your own food and drinks if you’re using your own car (or smuggle some snacks in your backpack)
Tip: There is an upstairs area as well with a great ocean view
Plan to spend a couple of hours here — the views change with the clouds, and it’s the perfect spot to slow down and take it all in.
Getting the Perfect Photos at Montaña Redonda
Montaña Redonda is famous for its swing photos. The right swing pic is all about timing, angle, and a little patience. (check out the pics below for some inspiration). They also have their own photo studio if you want to use professional services.
Pro tip: take your camera or phone fully charged, bring binoculars, and a blanket or towel to sit on while waiting for the perfect shot.
