Cliff & Cove: Your Go-To for Adventure in the Dominican Republic

The Friend You Can Count On

Have you ever received an overly excited message from a friend about “this new place they found that you just have to go to?” Maybe a new restaurant, the perfect swimming hole, an ideal spot for stargazing . . . whatever it was, they probably posted it to their feed, sent you a selfie or two while they were there, and swore they would take you back ASAP.

Here at Cliff & Cove, we are that friend, and the Deep South of the Dominican Republic is the destination. While we by no means discovered this Caribbean gem, we have found that it is under-appreciated in the travel world and almost entirely off the radar of most tourists in the Americas. It is our goal to share it with fellow adventurers.

We (the co-founders of Cliff & Cove) are 4 friends that have been living in the Deep South for several years. Living and breathing the culture and life in the area has helped us understand better how to travel and make the most out of a Dominican adventure. Each time we go out and explore, we learn something new and gain insight that we want to share with you (our lovely readers). Make sure to subscribe to be notified of our future adventure posts!

Beyond the Resorts

MORE THAN THE BEACH

We hope to help you see that there is more to the Dominican Republic than the expensive hotels and all-inclusive resorts that have made places like Punta Cana, La Romana, or Puerto Plata hot spots for a Caribbean getaway. The country also offers real adventure, unique and beautiful places to stay that are actually affordable, and a wide variety of geography - think mountains, caves, rivers, sand dunes, farms, and of course, the most beautiful beaches you’ve ever seen!

THE PEOPLE AND CULTURE ALONG THE WAY

The amazing scenery is only half of the story though. What really makes the country come alive are the people who breathe life into it. From the farmers to the artisans to the entrepreneurs, everyone has something unique to add - their personal story to tell. These stories come together to paint a picture of true Caribbean hospitality, of a culture bursting with life and vibrant colors. This is a picture you won’t get to see if you just stay at a resort.

THE ADVENTURE THAT’S WAITING

As you leave the capital city of Santo Domingo behind and venture further south into the country, you’ll see the landscape starts to change. You’ll see cities turn into small towns. Sometimes you won’t see any towns at all, just rugged mountains, or desert or thick tropical forests. You’ll see life slow down and get simpler. You’ll see stands overflowing with bright tropical fruits and vegetables. You’ll see hard-working locals selling handmade goods. You’ll see families of goats and cows. And at some point, you will probably think, ‘I should turn around now because I’m almost certainly lost,’ but you’re not. You’re just in the Deep South. That’s when you need to remember, Cliff & Cove said this would happen, just keep driving, it’s worth it.

Who We Are

  • QUALITY CONTENT

At Cliff & Cove we believe that traveling smart means traveling safely and in order to travel smart you need access to the right information. It is our goal to provide you with quality content about this unique part of the Do- minican Republic. We are making it our job to ensure that the information we share is reliable and up-to-date so that you can plan your perfect adventure.

  • MINDFULNESS & SUSTAINABILITY

When we travel and explore the area looking for new things to share, we make it our aim to do so in a way that respects both the culture and environment around us. We hope you do so too.

  • PERSONAL CONNECTION

We’ve found that travel is always better when you make a personal connection. For this reason, we don’t just look for places to go or things to see, we look for the stories and the people behind them. We will share these stories with you. In our posts, we will highlight local businesses whenever possible and share tips on how you can support them.

Who We’re Not

  • We are not foreigners claiming to know everything about the Dominican Republic. We recognize that there is always something new to learn. In fact, we’ve all been learning something new every day since we’ve lived here. Let’s continue learning together.

  • We are not ignorant. We know people have concerns about safety when traveling here, some of which are valid. The truth is, there are always risks involved with travel. This is why we encourage every one of our readers to educate themselves before traveling anywhere. We will always do our best to be transparent and give tips for staying safe when traveling, but each traveler needs to be responsible for him or herself.

  • Lastly, we are not luxury travelers. From time to time we may go to a place on the nicer end of the spectrum, but generally speaking, we are traveling on a budget. The deep south of the Dominican Republic is definitely a place where you can do this. We can’t wait to share the tips and tricks we’ve learned to travel without breaking the bank or sacrificing quality.
